Les Coleman was a non-smoker and led an active life fact of life. He was also a lifelong researcher so when the opportunity to join a clinical trial at Seideman Cancer Center at University Hospitals Case Medical Center arose, he jumped on it. We thought that he would be on the cutting edge of receiving something that could counteract these three tumors. Kathy says that he was doing great on his treatment. …but for whatever reason the protocol stopped. He passed away four months after being diagnosed. She says that they would not have done it any other way….Doctors here at Seideman Cancer Center find that sometimes clinical trials extend the patients alive and sometimes increase the quality of life …Dr. Goutham Narla is UH Case Medical Center’s first Harrington Distinguished Scholar, a program started this year to help physician scientists take their research and put it into action. Dr. Narla is seeing amazing progress in the fight to cure lung cancer by combining two already approved FDA drugs. One for schizophrenia and one for lung cancer. One or the other stops the tumors but not that good but when we combine them together and they have a markedly better effect working much better than either one alone. Kathy Coleman is such an advocate for clinical trials she has donated more than $3 million to further advance local trials at Seideman Cancer Center…
